Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Bulgaria and came to the States to go to college when I was 18 years old. Being half Armenian, a quarter Greek and a quarter Bulgarian, I consider the world my home.
Can you tell us about what it's like to be a Creative Director and Designer of a fashion brand?
I feel very privileged to be both an entrepreneur and a creative director. It allows me to be both analytical and creative at once. Math was my favorite subject in school, and I love problem solving in creative ways, whether it's on the design side or the business-building side. This is always something in the works that makes me excited about Mondays! Art and music define the world around me, as well. I studied at a charter-type music school from the age of six, and now music plays around me even when I design. Jazz, Opera, Billie Eilish…eclectic music is what I love and what I believe is reflected throughout my design and Marcella’s overall vibe.

What does education mean to you?
Education is everything. I was a voracious early reader and books opened up the world to me. They made me dream and gave me courage. Coming then to the States on a full college scholarship as a young woman allowed me to create opportunities and financial independence for myself and my family. I believe education can solve most problems around the world, and only more so if we educate more girls and women in countries where education is considered a privilege and not a right. I wish every kid could have the opportunity to be the best version of themselves, and education is the key to this in my view.
What is one item in your wardrobe that you can't live without?
I love my wide leg pants, whether it's the Georgia Pants or the Warren Pants. I love the comfort and sense of freedom I feel when I wear them. I have an athletic build and I think wide leg pants flatter my body shape. It's key to find a silhouette that flatters you in general.
What advice would you have for people looking to hone their personal style?
Trends are fleeting and contribute to the ever-growing pollution of our planet. Don’t be automatically beholden to fashion trends - feel free to remain true to yourself stylistically!

Why is social motivation such an important aspect of Marcella?
My personal philosophy is that people who tend to be more fortunate in life should share this good fortune with the world. Making a difference has always motivated me, and I feel privileged to be able to do it through our company and helping women and girls feel more empowered in different ways. I don’t think Marcella would have the energy and dynamism it has as a company without our core social motivation - the business we’re in is by no means easy (especially when one is trying to do it the right way) and social motivation is the daily fuel for so much of what our incredible team and I are able to accomplish (that, and a bit too much coffee!).
